Assuming that you have suddenly found yourself in a parallel universe, one where you’re desperate to find out what I think about music production and equipment, you can check out THIS piece in Headliner Magazine!

Nominated for an MPG Award!
I’m extremely proud and thankful to have been nominated for a Music Producer’s Guild Award in the Breakthrough Engineer Of The Year category. There are two wonderful engineers, Manon Grandjean and Andrew Hunt also nominated, and I’m not expecting to win in February. But at the end of the day nomination is enough – it represents my peers checking out my work and saying to themselves ‘actually that’s pretty decent’ – and that means a lot to me. And besides, if you’re nominated for ‘Breakthrough Engineer’ of anything, then win or lose, you have by definition ‘broken through’ which in our industry is certainly a milestone. If they’d just have a ‘Slowest Breakthrough Ever’ category, I’d be taking that home for sure. Anyway. It’s a happy day and I really appreciate this nomination, and the people who also worked so hard on the projects that secured it.

Judas Priest – Battle Cry US Billboard #1
Battle Cry LIVE has hit the #1 spot on the US Billboard Music DVD Chart, as well as #1’s in Sweden, Finland and Canada. So proud to have mixed this record, produced by the always amazing Tom Allom. I’d love to say that it earned those top spots by virtue of the wonderful mixing 🙂 but actually it’s the band’s incredible energy and performance that makes it such a great product – well worth checking out.

Speeding Cars – TOTD BBC R1
Walking On Cars single, Speeding Cars is BBC Radio 1’s Track Of The Day today, being played on every daytime show. This follows an A-Listing on Radio 2, approaching 2 million views and nearly 20,000 likes on YouTube, and more than 300,000 searches on Shazam. Of course the numbers don’t really mean much once you shut the laptop, but they do represent some thoroughly well-deserved recognition for an awesome and extremely hard-working band. So proud to have worked with them on this record.

Birdy – Beautiful Lies
Last year, I was fortunate enough to do some engineering on a few tracks for Birdy’s new album Beautiful Lies. She is one of those artists who surprises you every day in the studio – you just don’t think she could sing any more beautifully, or make it look any easier, and then she does. Again. She’s gone in at No4 in the Official UK Album Chart, is the Shazam No1 today, and debut’d at the top of the iTunes album chart in a number of countries. It’s hugely impressive to see how well she’s doing, but not a surprise having seen her work in person. Definitely one to check out.

Judas Priest – Battle Cry!
I have spent the last few months mixing this – It’s a huge honour to be involved with a band who have really defined their genre from the very beginning. The burden of responsibility has weighed heavily, and I believe we’ve presented their awesome energy in the appropriate way. Watching the show gives a sense of how they’ve remained at the top of the game for so long, with a fanbase spanning generations. It’s out at the end of March. Metal heads, check it out!
